From Sketch to Aisle: A Bluetooth Review of Alonuko Bridal

There is something truly beautiful about an unforgettable experience—like a cherished slideshow of memories that keeps replaying. Brides dream of that unique piece that will create a royal and treasured atmosphere on their big day.

Oluwagbemisola Okunlola, founder of Alonuko Bridal, invites soon-to-be brides to ponder, "From our Opulence Collection 2024, which royal princess would you choose to embody on your wedding day?"

With 27 stunning pieces, the Opulence Collection sparks my imagination about how each gown would look and feel. Thanks to the power of creativity, we can craft our own Alonuko bridal experience, even if only in our minds.

I will be reviewing some Alonuko wedding dresses as if conducting a virtual fitting, and this is what we at Ordinary People call a bluetooth review. So, you have one job—just imagine these wedding gowns on yourselves!

Nigerian Bridal Designers: A Spotlight on Alonuko Bridal.

What makes this exciting is the fact that Alonuko wedding dresses are made by one of the best Nigerian fashion designers, setting high expectations.

Martha Stewart's assertion that dramatic trains and lace are the top trends for 2024 perfectly captures the essence of this stunning Alonuko wedding dress. This is the kind of gown that makes you think, “The moment I laid eyes on it, I knew I had found the one."

What stands out for me are the off-shoulder V-neckline, embroidered sleeves, and the dramatic train. The lace detailing is impeccable, as if meticulously hand-placed. It’s clear that the materials are of the highest quality—this dress is far from off-the-rack.

As a size 14 soon-to-be bride, I find the silhouette incredibly flattering against my caramel skin tone. This gown is definitely a contender for my big day. I also appreciate its versatility; it’s perfect not just for the ceremony but also for a reception or other special occasions.

This bespoke Alonuko design would enhance various body types. The corset beautifully cinches the waist, and the dress feels light enough for dancing.

This dress is a definite yes for me. I’m ready to invest in its premium quality, exquisite detailing, and exceptional fit—it's a stunning choice for any bride aiming to create a memorable and regal experience.

And to answer Gbemi's question, with this dress, I feel like Princess Elsa.

Now, let’s explore more options—I love having choices!

I love how this dress is both trendy and original. While I appreciate the gown's fishtail silhouette, I have to admit that it’s not my personal favourite.

In my opinion, this style doesn’t flatter all body types, and I’ve seen many ladies struggle to pull it off. However, that doesn’t take away from the overall gorgeousness of the dress!

I am a fan of the embroidered sleeves and the off-shoulder neckline. The moderate amount of skin it reveals at the neckline is quite alluring, and I’m here for it. That said, the back of the dress is a "no" for me. As a bride with a larger bust, I feel that the combination of the off-shoulder neckline and the exposed back is too much for my liking. But of course, that’s just my personal preference!

This gown also features a chapel train, which offers a balance between drama and practicality, adding elegance without being overwhelming. Additionally, it is not overly bulky which is a common concern with dramatic dresses.

This wedding dress is a masterpiece for curvy brides. The corset design provides excellent structure while enhancing curves in a flattering way. And when I say curves, I don’t necessarily mean dramatic curves, but the body’s natural shape that the fishtail silhouette helps emphasize. The A-line shape in most fishtail designs also allows for flexibility, giving a better fit for curvy women which is great as the goal is to feel like royalty, not like a statue.

Ultimately, brides should choose dresses that complement their body type. In my opinion, this gown may not flatter every figure, but it’s certainly a stunning choice for the right bride.

"Onto the next dress!"

Nigerian bridal fashion brand Alonuko has gained international recognition for its stunning wedding dresses, showcasing the creativity of Nigerian fashion designers. After visualizing these two dresses on ourselves, we understand why!

Do you have any favourite Nigerian bridal fashion brands?

This Alonuko bridal piece is absolutely breathtaking! Yes, I know it has a fishtail silhouette, but it exudes a glamorous appeal with its sweetheart and plunging neckline. Any bride wearing this will leave her husband speechless.

It’s the perfect dress for daring brides—shout out to all our daring royal princesses! I love the bold lace embroidery. The details on the dress create an elevated, luxurious look without going over the top, and the soft tulle at the bottom adds flexibility, making it more comfortable for the bride.

That being said, this gown might not be the most flexible option for all body types. The fishtail design, while beautiful, flatters curvier figures more than straight or plus-size body types. If a non-curvy bride wants to be daring, alterations might be necessary to ensure the right fit around the bust, waist, back, and hips.

For brides seeking a less daring look, this gown would still make a stunning ball dress.

At this point, we should call this the "Daring Princess Piece."

Though it's a great value for bold brides, it’s not the best choice for me. My body already makes a statement, and wearing such a daring dress would distract my husband from the wedding and keep him focused on the honeymoon! While I love the idea, moderation is key, even in fashion. Trends can be fabulous, but you need to make them your own. This gown doesn’t quite suit my style, so I’ll pass.

So, tell me, would you consider yourself a daring princess?

I am literally screaming with excitement right now! What is this dress?! Just take a moment to

admire it and imagine it on yourself. The gown features an elegant sheath silhouette with a corseted bodice and a stunning mermaid-style skirt, all wrapped in exquisite lace.

The neckline is everything, and the high-neck choker detail takes it to the next level. It’s like the perfect balance of Abula (amala, gbegiri, ewedu, and stew) — every element comes together for a truly fulfilling experience. Just like Abula, this dress blends contemporary sleekness with vintage lace accents, creating a timeless masterpiece.

The addition of pearl buttons elevates this dress even more, these details are thoughtfully designed, providing a delicate finish to the gown. The chapel train is long enough to create a sweeping effect and I love it because it’s easier to handle than longer trains, like the cathedral style.

I wouldn’t change a thing about the back of this dress—it’s just perfect.

While this wedding gown is striking, it may not flatter every figure. However, I’m confident that with a few tweaks, it can be tailored to perfection. As a size 14 bride, I’d opt for additional bust support and perhaps an illusion bodice to ensure comfort and coverage without sacrificing the sleek lines of the dress. The built-in corset will beautifully hug my curves, though I recognize that brides with a fuller midsection may need further adjustments to achieve that snatched look.

This dress, with a few alterations depending on body type, is a true showstopper. Its built-in corset helps hug the body.

By using stretchy lace and the right undergarments, the tight silhouette wouldn’t restrict movement, making it easier to dance and walk freely. While it’s ideal for weddings, it’s versatile enough that some might choose it for other occasions.

With the adjustments I mentioned earlier, I’m saying a big YES to this dress!

Talking about luxury, we need a name for this dress—let's call it "The Luxurious Princess Gown." It's giving us that Ombre effect, with the illusion bodice and lace-covered sleeves. It strikes the perfect balance between modesty and keeping the design gorgeous and comfortable.

Can we get a standing ovation for the back of this dress? The illusion back is such a standout feature! The dramatic tulle train flows gracefully, adding a touch of grandeur.

The mix of sheer fabric with detailed lace creates a visually striking contrast, making it perfect for a bride who wants something unique and modern, yet timeless.

Adding more structured cups or an inner corset for plus-size brides would enhance the fit and provide additional support. Just like the "Daring Princess piece" we tried earlier, this dress can be as bold as you want.

The illusion elements can be adjusted to offer more or less coverage, depending on your comfort level.

And for those side-eyeing and asking, "Isn’t this a fishtail silhouette?" It’s the versatility of this piece that makes it special.

I can customize it however I want without losing those stunning details that make it "The Luxurious Princess Gown." While I can picture this on a ball gown, it just doesn’t hit the same.

So, what do you think? Am I saying yes to this dress?

The sheath silhouette hugs one's figure in all the right places, making it ideal for brides who want to showcase their shape without compromising elegance. The sweetheart neckline offers a beautiful, moderate reveal of skin.

Depending on your bust size, this neckline can be adjusted for more or less coverage, giving you control over how much you reveal. I find the dress's subtle sensuality very attractive—it's a bold statement without being overly revealing.

The embroidered long sleeves are truly eye-catching, adding an element of grace and elegance to the gown. In fact, they were the first detail that drew my attention. The choker element is also great.

Now, let’s talk about the detachable overskirt, which elevates the gown’s regal appearance. The versatility of this overskirt allows you to switch between a more fitted sheath look and a fuller, more dramatic style. It’s perfect for brides who want that grand entrance, with the option to transition into something else for the reception with the same outfit.

The materials used for this Alonuko bridal gown are visibly high-quality, exuding richness and sophistication. It’s giving “rich and classy” vibes, perfect for brides who want to make a statement. Where are my rich and classy brides?

But even for the rich and classy bride, it’s important to have choices, and I’m here to share mine. While this gown is undeniably stunning, I have to say NO to this gorgeous piece. Why? Well, even though I love the detachable overskirt that mimics a train, it's just not my style.

To put it simply, I would prefer the gown without the detachable overskirt. So, to my fellow members of the association of rich and classy brides—while this dress may not be the one for me, it could certainly be the perfect choice for you!

This dress is an absolute showstopper—where do I even begin? Just feeling it, you find yourself in Paris; everything about it exudes elegance.

If it’s bead-encrusted, count me in! This gown is embellished with sequins, glass beads, and rhinestones, and I’m completely obsessed. I’m fully experiencing the Alonuko bridal experience virtually.

Nigerian fashion designers, how do you do it? Creativity is at its peak! The beaded details would create a stunning pattern on my body, and the sheath silhouette is nothing short of perfection.

I would choose this as a reception dress. I’m not big on detachable overskirts as trains, so I would gladly wear this beauty without it. The mermaid-style tail adds an element of grandeur without being overwhelming, so it's a definite yes for me.

I love how the simplicity of the dress does not compromise its luxurious feel. I might consider wider shoulder straps, depending on how firm the corset is, given the size of my bust. The minimalism of the back design is modern yet timeless, offering a sleek and clean finish. It looks comfortable and lightweight, making it easy to move in.

For brides who don’t mind detachable overskirts, this wedding dress radiates sophistication—perfect for a confident bride who appreciates a refined look.

Now, the name of this dress is "The Real Deal Glamorous Wedding Gown."

Dear brides, we have found a top contender as a reception dress—without the detachable overskirt, of course.

This imaginative dress fitting is turning out even better than expected!

Step into a world of luxury with the 8th masterpiece from Alonuko Bridal's breathtaking collection of custom wedding gowns. Every dress tells a story of timeless elegance, attention to detail, and creativity.

This dress is truly stunning! What stands out for me is the consistency in creativity, yet simplicity—it would definitely give a regal and sophisticated look. As I’ve mentioned before, if it’s bead-encrusted, I’m all in. This gown is adorned with shimmering beads that catch the light beautifully, giving it a radiant, high-fashion appeal.

Take a moment to appreciate the off-shoulder draped sleeves that create a captivating neckline, drawing attention to the décolletage. The plunging neckline adds a touch of sensuality, while the sheer sleeves with intricate beadwork blend seamlessly with the gown’s overall embellishment.

I must say, the detachable overskirt is a standout feature, adding volume and drama—a perfect blend of structure and fluidity. Without the overskirt, the mermaid-style tail extends with grandeur, and the beadwork keeps the dress from feeling overwhelming.

In my opinion, this gown is a great fit for sizes up to 12. Some size 14s could pull it off, but for me, I would recommend sticking to the mentioned sizes. And no, there’s no need to feel bad—every dress isn’t for everyone, and that’s perfectly fine.

I also appreciate the back of the dress, though it’s a bit too exposed for my personal taste. However, the versatility of this gown is incredible—both the detachable sleeves and overskirt can be removed to create a different look. It’s a regal, multipurpose dress, and I love it for that.

For plus-size brides who want to be daring, I’d suggest tightening the corset for a firmer hold or opting for slightly wider, supportive straps to ensure comfort throughout the day. For more structure around the bust area, adding wider shoulder straps or reinforcing the corset would enhance both comfort and style without compromising the gown's elegant, minimalist design.

If you’re a bride who loves luxurious, form-fitting designs that balance elegance and modern flair, this gown could be perfect for you. And if you're also leaning toward simplicity with a dash of glamour, this is an excellent choice—just make sure the bust area is tailored to your comfort level.

Alonuko Bridal Collection: Redefining Nigerian Elegance with Custom Wedding Gowns.

The collection's luxurious theme shines through with intricate lacework and a dramatic train that leaves an unforgettable impression. From these stunning pieces, I’ve already found both a wedding and reception dress.

While I may not be a fan of every gown, there’s no denying that each one is a true work of art in dress form. This collection offers something for every bride, with versatile options that can be tailored to your personal style.

The beauty of these gowns is that they don’t need dramatic accessories—simple touches are enough, as the dresses themselves make the statement.
